Website design for female owned small businesses, bloggers, and purposeful entrepreneurs

You already know the importance of having a website for your business. You might even already know your brand identity and what content you have to offer; whether it’s written blog posts, digital products/services, or physical products/services.

If you’re like most women I talk to you probably thought you could make a website on your own but the overwhelm set in when you realized what an undertaking it is– especially when you want it done right.

  • You’re unsure of what platform to start on.
  • You feel overwhelmed because there’s so much information out there.
  • You spend hours watching youtube tutorials and get nowhere.
  • You realize it’s taking too much time away from the other tasks on your plate.
  • You feel uncomfortable hiring some random dude from Fiver and handing over all your content and passwords to a total stranger, without knowing if they even understand your vision.

You deserve more than that. I’m here to help you get your work out into the world with a website that reflects your personality, your brand, and creates a unique and enjoyable experience for your clients.

Recent Work

My goal is to be of total service to  you. It’s about connecting with you, understading your vision, and making it happen.

Scratch Made Consulting

Kabrena Williams of Scratch Made Consulting needed a website that showcased her professional background as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst as well as her new venture as a self care coach for parents of special needs children. Most importantly I wanted it to feel like her personality: sunny, grounded, intelligent, and sweet. When we met she already had a friend working on the site for her, but when it was finally revealed (we were on a zoom call together when she first got a look at the finished product) we were both majorly disappointed. The content on all of the paged was quite literally screenshots of the word documents she sent the designer of her copy. *gasp* No care was taken to make it user friendly, aesthetically pleasing, or reflective of her and her brand. So it was important for me to focus on all of those things when designing the site for her.

Andee Love

Andee Love, a female empowerment and business coach, already had a website but was going through a rebrand of her business as it had evolved along with her over the years. Andee wanted something that was clean and professional, but also modern and fun. Going off her beautiful branding photos our color scheme came together easily. We created a home page showcasing who she is and her many amazing offerings, as well as an about page, blog, contact page, and most importantly her services pages.  We created individual pages for each of her offerings to give her readers and prospective clients an informative yet digestable taste of what it’s like to work with her.

Brigitte Ayoub

Bri, a business and health coach, came to me one day and asked if I would build her a new website. She had built her old site herself on WordPress, but without knowing much about WordPress she wasn’t able to make it look the way she wanted…and she didn’t have the time to figure it all out on her own. This is the very first site I designed (aside from my own) and we were both very pleased with the result. She wanted something feminine but not too “girly” so pink was out of the question. The soft peach and grey color scheme I created for her was exactly what she wanted! Her site is simple to navigate and gorgeous to look at.

Meaghan Langston

Meaghan Langston, a leadership and business coach wanted a website that looked professional, was simple to navigate, and most importantly easy for her to manage once I handed over the keys. As a coach I knew that her services pages would be the most important part of her website so I wanted to build that out as a focal point. The site couldn’t be too masculine or too feminine, as she serves a wide range of clients so it was crucial that I communicate her skill, professionalism and sweet disposition with the look of her site with the right color scheme. I love the complimentary colors we used of the soft blue and tangerine. It’s not too bright but it has a good pop to it while still looking clean and modern.

Rachael Rothman

Rachael Rothman is a consultant to corporations and hotels so making her site professional and easy to navigate was the priority. I wanted her prospective clients to come to the site and learn everything they would want to know to help them decide to work with her. We created service pages for the different services she offers, and within those pages I outlined what she helps businesses do, what they can expect when working with her, and any frequently asked questions. I designed this site with her prospective clients in mind, thinking about what they would be looking for and what they would want to know about her services, while still making it clean, modern, and easy to navigate.

Jordan Slattery

Jordan Slattery is a young actor based in NYC and DC. She came to me after she laded her first professional role wanting a website to showcase her resume, professional photos, and a way to contact her. The goal was to make it simple and professional. Unlike bloggers, coaches, and other entrepreneurs I work with, the websites of actors are very no frills. I set her up with her domain, hosting, and WordPress site using one of the free themes since we were going for a minimalist look.  Not all websites need to have all the bells and whistles. Her photos speak for themselves so I let her beauty shine while making it easy to navigate for casting directors to learn about Jordan and her body of work.

North Carolina Coalition on Aging

The North Carolina Coalition on Aging needed an updated website. Badly. Their old site was cluttered, hard to navigate, and unpleasing to the eye. Given their main audience is older people I wanted to clean it up and make it super easy to navigate. We went off their existing logo to create the color scheme, but the focus was simple, easy, and professional. I think we achieved our goal!

Bridgers Association Cameroon

I took on the project of making over the website for Bridgers Association Cameroon as a pro bono project. Bridgers is a charitable organization based in Cameroon, Africa which helps promote gender equality and provide opportunities for women and girls to receive educations, and economic opportunities. The information they provide on their website is vital for so many women and girls to get out of poverty and abusive situations. Their old website was in need of an update, as it was hard to navigate, disorganized, and had many broken links and empty pages. I created new pages for each of their many projects and causes so that more people could learn about the great work they are doing, and I added donate buttons all throughout the website so they could easily gain more funding and donations.

Testimonials

Caroline and I met at a divine time in my business. I had recently pivoted and needed someone with talent to design my website the way that I pictured it in my mind. You guys, that’s pretty hard to do. Nevertheless, it only took one meeting for me to realize what a ‘gem’ I had found. Caroline surpassed my expectations and whatever I had in my mind as an idea, she totally understood and delivered.  None of my ideas seemed outlandish or far fetched. Everything I wanted as far as aesthetic, branding, stylistic features, she delivered plus more. I didn’t send her pictures of my ideas, she’s that talented y’all. We have tons in common. From operating as clinicians in therapeutic spaces, to pivoting and using our passions in a different yet, purposeful way. I enjoyed working with her so much and recommend any female entrepreneur to her.

Kabrena Williams

Special Needs Parent Coach at Scratch Made Consulting

Caroline is a web-design guru! She listens intently to the needs of your web design desires and executes accordingly. She is detail-oriented, diligent in her work, and really allows you to dream big on what you want your website to look like. She is patient, attentive, and wants to ensure YOU feel good with every edit and change. Of the many elements I appreciated in our work together, Caroline really tries to embody your personality and “vibe.” Given her expertise in blogging, she has extensive knowledge around creating content and copy that captivates audiences and tells the story in a cohesive manner — this is key for anyone looking to have the website pop!  As a business owner, we wear many hats and I felt completely confident in her ability to handle all web design needs. I highly recommend Caroline for all your needs — whether a full “makeover,” a touchup, or monthly maintenance– she is your girl. Thank you Caroline!

Brigitte Ayoub

Certified Health and Business Coach and Meditation Teacher

Caroline worked with me to set up and design my website. She took on the project with the same care and attention she would if it were her own business. She was quick to respond, willing to make changes, and went above and beyond the original scope of the project to get me what I needed. At the end, I had a unique, beautifully designed site that displayed my personal brand and my services.

Meaghan Langston

Certified Professional Coach and Small Business Consultant

As an actor, I’ve always known how important it is to have a website. That being said, the idea of actually building it was always so daunting to me – daunting enough to make me put off the task for years. I can’t express how happy I am that Caroline is the one I trusted to get my site up and running! I came to her with a few ideas and a lot of apprehension, and I ended up being completely blown away by my site. She worked with my crazy schedule, was wonderful to communicate with, and was able to spin my small ideas into  something beautiful and functional. Her aptitude and eye for design made this daunting task completely stress free and exciting. And rewarding!  I’m so happy with my website! It’s something I’m proud to show off – I give the link out to practically everyone I meet.

Jordan Slattery

Actor

It was my first time ever launching a website and it was a dream working with Caroline! I felt kind of intimidated and didn’t really know what I was doing and Caroline was soooo patient, helpful and kind every step of the way. She worked at my pace and created a beautiful website I’m so proud of and excited to send people to! I am already in the works of creating another website with her for a side project of mine! Thank you again Caroline!

FAQs

What if I already have a domain name but don't have a website?

Then we can work with that! As long as you know where you got your domain name and your login info then we’re good.

Can you built on platforms other than Squarespace and WordPress?

I work with WordPress and Squarespace mainly but I have also built sites on Shopify and Kajabi. I am open to other platforms as well so don’t let it stop you if you have your heart set on something else.

I already have a website I love but I hate building sales pages, can you help?

Totally! That’s where the hourly work comes in. You can hire me for a couple of hours to take care of any of your website needs.

Can you teach me how to make money with my blog?

I can certainly show you ways to monetize your blog but a lot of a blog’s success is about your ability to build a strong community, create a voice for yourself and your writing that resonants with your audience, position yourself in a way that makes people want to buy things from you (and everybody does that differently).

Do you accept payment plans?

Absolutely. A major value of mine is making this affordable for the every gal, because I started my website as a side hobby, so I get it. We can break down your package price into 2 or 3 payments to make it a bit easier on the wallet. I do ask that a $200 down payment is made at the beginning because I need to know you’re invested in this website before I invest the time and energy to build it. *Side note, we should all have healthy boundaries around our time and energy*

Why does Squarespace site cost less than a WordPress site for you to design?

I’ve been designing websites on both WordPress and Squarespace for a while now, and after crunching the numbers I discovered that on average it takes over twice as long to build out a WordPress site than it does a Squarespace site. That is because WordPress has a much more detailed and indepth back end. There’s more options and bells & whistles that go into designing a WordPress site so it just takes more time. It also requires hosting a domain name from third parties so that takes some extra leg work as well This isn’t something to deter you from using WordPress. On the contrary, because it is more involved you can get a highly customized and individualized website, it just takes longer to put together. Some people want that, and some people want the beautiful and intuitive set up of a Squarespace website. It’s your choice!

Will you teach me how to navigate the site so I can change things in the future?

Yep! We will have a recorded Zoom call where I’ll show you how to do all the most important things on your website and send it to you so you always have it to refer back to. *Also, I’m always here after we are finished if you have quick questions*

How much does a domain name and hosting cost?

That depends on what platform you use. Squarespace is an all in one so you get your hosting and domain through them, as well as any security needed. Their packages range from $12/month to $40/month depending on which package is right for you. You get your domain  free for the first year, then after that it’s $20/year.

For Wordpress you will have to get your domain name and hosting from third parties. To register a domain name will cost anywhere between $1-20 per year depending on the name you choose, and the company you go with. For example yourdomainname.com might be available for $11.99 per year, but to go cheaper you can use a different ending instead of “.com” such as oursomainname.site which might be $2.99 per year. Obviously everyone wants a .com because it is more recognizable and easy to remember but that’s why the other options are cheaper. When you buy your domain it will also recommend that you purchase privacy and protection which (on Bluehost) is $11.88 per year (as of my writing this). So your yearly cost for a domain name and protection is around $23, but this will differ depending on where you get it.

Hosting packages range from $4 per month for a basic package to $15 per month for a pro package, again this is depending on which company you go with.

Overall your yearly costs of keeping your website running (domain and hosting) begins around $70-150 depending on the cost of your domain name, which hosting package you go with, and where you get it.

*Note. I am NOT affiliated with any domain registry or hosting platform so I don’t make any money one way or another on this*

Do I need to purchase a theme?

I would prefer if you didn’t purchase a theme before we start working together. There are a lot of factors to consider with your theme and I would highly advice discussing everything you want with me first before purchasing a theme. I’ve had numerous clients come to me with a theme already purchased and live to regret it because they learn along the way that this theme is not in fact what they want. I can help steer you in the right direction on this so you don’t end up wasting money on a theme you don’t use.

How I got started…

I didn’t go to school for web design, full disclosure. I’m actually a Speech-Language Pathologist with a passion for yoga and blogging. This all came about because (after spending 5 years building my own website from scratch) a friend of mine said “I really like your blog, could I hire you to build me a website like yours?” My initial reaction, though grateful for the compliment was that I didn’t think I could do it. I didn’t feel qualified.

Her vote of confidence led me to say “okay let’s give it a try, but I can’t make any promises.” Her kind support and patience was just what I needed to see that I actually did possess more skills than I gave myself credit for. After all I had spent the last 5 years building my blog on nights and weekends, googling everything I didn’t know, learning by trial-and-error. I spent way too much time and energy figuring it out, but I learned a lot in the process.

This was my opportunity to become aware of my knowledge in an area that so many people need help with and then put that knowledge into action by serving women in my community who wanted beautiful websites to represent them, their passions, and their businesses. My hope that you don’t waste as much time as I did in the beginning trying to do it all yourself.

*I’m understanding of financial circumstances and happy to work with you on a payment plan that feels good to you.*

Take Note

  •  If I am setting you up with your domain, hosting, and/or theme, the fees associated with each of those are NOT included in my web design package price but I will do the legwork to get these things set up for you. You can expect to pay about $100 per year on average for your domain and hosting.
  • I will be charging introductory prices for now, far below the norm for this sort of thing, but will slowly be increasing my prices as I grow. So if you like what you see I encourage you to reach out to me and we can chat about whether I would be the right fit for your web design needs.
